IOWN Special Session: Global Partnership of IOWN Global Forum to Realize IOWN

As various AI and IoT services are entering our daily living, the demands for faster speeds and greater capacity in the ICT infrastructure that supports them are only increasing. At the same time, a sustainable developmental society requires the ICT infrastructure to have low environmental impact. IOWN Global Forum was established in January 2020 as an organization that aims to solve the challenging goal of providing next-generation ICT infrastructure that achieves both of these goals through global partnerships. This session invites speakers from companies active in the IOWN Global Forum to review the forum activities over the past two years and discusses their roles and expectations for the forum in the future.

DX Special Session: DX in Japan

Currently, Japan is facing a variety of issues such as the declining birthrate, aging population, economic recovery, and regional revitalization. DX is needed at various levels of government, local governments, and businesses to solve these issues. In order to promote DX, it is necessary to have a mindset of “change” to question, modify, and even stop existing ways of doing things and underlying rules that are “the norm” for the organization. In this session, the world's leading ICT companies and local governments present how they have been trying to realize DX, starting with changing their ways of thinking, as well as their specific solutions. What DX can do and its role are discussed in the panel discussion.

Barrier-free Navigation Project (Promotion of Pedestrian Mobility Support that Uses ICT)

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has been working on the “Barrier-free Navigation Project,” which collects barrier-free information on steps, inclines, elevators, etc. in pedestrian spaces as “pedestrian space network data” in cooperation with local governments and businesses, and promotes the development of an environment where such data is made available as open data and utilized in a variety of fields. This year, the MLIT is trying to conduct experiments of autonomous driving robots using this “pedestrian space network data.” The MLIT introduces autonomous driving robots, their collaboration with elevators and Quasi-Zenith Satellite System, and barrier-free open data platform.

Open Smart UR

Urban Renaissance Agency (UR), together with Faculty of Information Networking for Innovation And Design (INIAD), Toyo University, has formed “Open Smart UR Study Group,” a study group on future housing for the era a little beyond 2030 (UR2030), and has been promoting its activities. To realize UR2030, the study group has developed “Living Monitoring Residences” in Akabanedai, Kita City, Tokyo, which are residences where residents can experience the parts of the concept by living in them. This session focuses on these residences and introduces the study group's approach.

Intel Technology Session: Intel Promotes Social Implementation of AI

Intel provides the elemental technology of hardware/software products for AI implementation. From 2022 to 2023, Intel plans to release a series of CPU and GPU products to make and run AI faster. INIAD's Reskilling Program for the DX Era

Faculty of Information Networking for Innovation And Design (INIAD), Toyo University has implemented a number of recurrent education programs for reskilling in digital technology alongside undergraduate education since its opening in FY 2017. Today, more than 300 working adults complete INIAD's program each year, which is as large as the number of students per each grade at the school. This session introduces INIAD's reskilling program and the efforts of private companies that actually send their employees to the program, and discusses what kind of education is required in the DX era.

Open Data of Public Transportation toward New Mobility

Open Data Challenge for Smart Logistics by Daiwa House Industry

Daiwa House Group has held a contest, in which contestants compete in programing skills to operate their logistics robots in an optimal manner by using actual data of the distribution center. This time, a contest will be held in cooperation with Hitachi Transport System, Ltd., where the vital data of truck drivers and the dashboard camera data from “SSCV-Safety,” a transportation digital platform are made available as open data. Contestants compete for effective use of such data. Various issues the transportation industry faces and an overview of the contest are presented, and future outlook is discussed.

Today, the term “Energy security” has come to be used to describe the drastically changing global political environment and the increasingly unstable energy situation. Under these circumstances, this session shares the strategies for the utilization of energy resources aimed at the continuous acquisition of energy that balances economic development and environmental protection.
