””Meeting Held with North American Liaison Office of the TRON Association

On July 10, a meeting with the TRON Association North American Liaison Office was held in Tokyo. In attendance were committee and staff members of the TRON Association's Overseas Branch Committee and the North American Liaison Office of the TRON Association, who actively discussed the activities to promote and popularize the results of the TRON project and project itself in North America.

It was decided that Accelerated Technology, the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics, will be commissioned to conduct the business of the North American Liaison Office again this year, and an agreement was executed.

To strengthen ties, ongoing efforts will focus on the following tasks:

1. Serving as the liaison office for North America.

””(1) Promoting the TRON Project in North America.

””(2) Developing the website for the North American Liaison Office of the TRON Association.

””(3) Proceeding with the preparations to establish the North American chapter of the TRON Association.

2. Providing local support for TRON Association exhibits at events in North America.

””GUI Middleware for Standard T-Engine Boards: "PMC T-Shell Development Kit"

Personal Media Corporation's PMC T-Shell Development Kit offers GUI middleware for the standard T-Engine boards with SH7727, SH7751R, VR5500, ARM720-S1C, and ARM920-MX1. Developers can use the PMC T-Shell Development Kit with each Standard T-Engine Development Kit for a set of the various essential middleware usually required for embedded devices: the display primitive, GUI manager, font manager, kana-to-kanji conversion engine, TCP/IP manager, MicroScript visual language, and so on. This allows the developers to focus on creating the embedded control applications and drivers for their particular final products.

PMC T-Shell Development Kit

””Real-Time OS "PriOS for SH3/4" Based on the ¦ĢITRON4.0 Specification

PriOS for SH3/4 from Ibaraki Hitachi Information Service Co., Ltd. is a real-time OS for SH3 and SH4 based on the ¦ĢITRON4.0 Specification that comes with the NetSock built-in TCP/IP protocol stack. MMU protection is fully utilized to detect software problems at an early stage. In addition, the OS logs events and conditions in case of of various types of software problems, providing a means of analysis in troubleshooting. The TCP/IP stack features a BSD-like socket-level interface in the API. Various sample protocols - Web server, Telnet server, PPP, and others - are provided.

””TRON Project Promotion in 2003

The framework for project promotion this year is as follows:

Project Promotion Committee (Chairman: Ken Sakamura)

As the central body for promotion of the TRON Project, the committee deliberates all matters generally related to project promotion, as well as managing and providing technical guidance and advice for each of these groups.

(2) ITRON Specification Study Group (Chairman: Kenji Kudo of Fujitsu Devices Inc.)

(3) TRON Multi-Script Application Group (Chairman: Akira Matsui, Personal Media Corporation)

(4) TRON Education and Promotion Group (Chairman: Noboru Koshizuka, University of Tokyo)

(5) Marketing Group (Chairman: Takao Nakano, TRON Association)

””Activities of the Advanced Technology Research Group

TRON Project leader Ken Sakamura shared the latest news and described specification creation and feasibility test at the Ubiquitous ID Center.

(1) Ubiquitous ID technical overview

””- Features of uID: 128-bit long code; code capable of encompassing various existing ID codes; and support for very small chip size

””- Certification criteria for standard ID tags are specified depending on their classification.

””- Standard built-in device functions include multi-mode communication functions and eTRON functions.

(2) So far the Ubiquitous ID Center has certified as standardized ID tags the Mu-Chip, T-Junction, and eTRON/16-AE45X prior to the feasibility test.

(3) Keikyu Store Co., Ltd., Yokosuka Hayama Agricultural Cooperative, and others are participating in feasibility test for food traceability.

””IP Cameras from Techno One Powered by ¦ĢITRON

The DTC-301 and DTC-311 IP cameras from Techno One Co., Ltd. incorporate¦ĢITRON specification OS, a high-performance 32-bit RISC CPU, and Techno One's middleware. The IP cameras use existing Internet or LAN connections for easy remote monitoring of images via regular browsers. Users can link the internal detectors to an optional light system for automatic illumination when a person is detected, or program the cameras for automatic transmission of images stored after detection to a specified recipient via the Internet. Still JPEG images can be sent to mobile phones and/or other mobile devices. Video mail transmission is also supported. The cameras use MPEG4 compression for compact file sizes.
