On the Release of the ¦ÌITRON4.0 Certification Specification (Draft/Japanese Version)

The TRON Association wishes to inform those it may concern that the¦ÌITRON4.0 Certification Specification (Draft/Japanese Version) has been made public. The ¦ÌITRON4.0 Certification Specification (Draft/Japanese Version) is a collection of test items and rules for test procedures to confirm the fact that an implemented operating system is based on the specification. It is compatible with both the standard profile and the automotive control profile of the ¦ÌITRON4.0 Specification.

The certification specification is to the last minimum test specification rules for confirming specification conformity. It is not something aimed at guaranteeing the quality of kernels. We are planning to release the certification specification draft to the public via http://www.itron.gr.jp/.

In addition, a certification system is necessary for raising software portability, and it is considered an important step toward the internationalization of the ITRON specification. At present, the TRON Association is studying a method for putting a certification system into effect. We are considering a method in which a kernel would be approved based on self reporting by a developer that the tests prescribed in the certification specification had been carried out.
