TRON Human Interface Design Guidelines Officially Adopted by IEC |
| "Guidelines for the User Interfaces in Multimedia Equipment for General Purpose
Use," which have undergone drafting and deliberation over three years as PT61997
within IEC TC100 (Audio, Video, and Multimedia Systems and Equipment), was voted
on through a Committee Draft for Voting (CDV) and adopted without incident on August
15, 2000. The guidelines that have been deliberated in IEC PT61997 (Chairman: Mr.Nakamura, Toshiba Corp.) are things that prescribe end user interface design guidelines for multimedia equipment for end users. Because many of the objectives these guidelines aim at have commonalities with the TRON Human Interface Guidelines, the drafting of guidelines in PT61997 moved forward on the basis of the TRON guidelines, and the TRON guidelines have been incorporated in large parts of the final draft. Since these rules are guidelines and do not have the character of a standard that can strictly define conformance, rather than being made a standard, it has been as a TR at this time based on the judgment that it is suitable as a Technical Report. In the human interface field, this is very deeply meaningful also in the sense that a proposal from Japan has been incorporated in an international standard. Next, the technical report is scheduled to be officially released within the current year after reflecting comments for revisions from the various committee members from nations throughout the world. |
