Cho Kanji Application Study Meetings |
| Using the occasion of the marketing of the BTRON3-specification operating system
"Cho Kanji" (B-right/V R2) in which 130,000 characters of the various nations
of the world have been incorporated into a true multilingual environment, the TRON
Association held a series of four study meetings from September 1999 to sound out
the opinions of word processor makers, font makers, system makers, and municipal
government system administrators concerning multi-character and multi-kanji applications. That multi-character/multi-kanji provisions of the new BTRON-specification operating system are necessary for writing down personal and place names was heard from the overwhelming majority of those who attended the meetings. Based on the opinions that were discussed in these study meetings, the TRON Association plans to establish a "Cho Kanji Study Group" in an attempt to expand the spread of the BTRON-specification operating system. |

Joint Development of ¦ÌITRON with U.S. Firm |
| GrapeSystems Inc. has jointly developed with Accelerated Technology Inc. of the U.S.
a royalty-free real-time operating system called "Nucleus¦ÌiPlus" based
on the ¦ÌITRON specification for which the source code is also offered. Almost all
CPUs are supported, and an integrated development environment, source level debugging,
and middleware components have also been prepared for application developers. It
is expected that use of ¦ÌITRON will spread in the U.S. and Europe as a result of

TRON-GUI Specification to Be Made Public in the Spring |
| The TRON Association's "TRON-GUI Specification Study Group," which has been conducting investigations for the purpose of standardizing the APIs of graphical user interface (GUI) functions for embedded devices, is currently working on the final adjustments to its specification. Version 1.0 of the specification is scheduled for completion by the spring of 2000, when it will be made open to the general public so that anyone can freely implement it and market products based on it. |
