The TRON Association displayed an ITRON exhibit at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) that was held in San Jose, California, from September 26 through 30. Also, on September 29, it held an ITRON International Meeting in a hotel next to the convention center where the ESC took place.
At the meeting there were special lectures by EE Times on embedded systems in the U.S., and by Toyota Motor Corporation on its selection of ¦ÌITRON for use in automotive electronics systems. In addition, five vendors gave presentations on products.
Since 1997, the TRON Association has held an ITRON International Meeting annually to promote the use of the ITRON architecture in the U.S. This year's meeting was the third held to date.

Matsushita Merges One-Chip FAX Engine and ¦ÌITRON

Matsushita Graphic Communication Systems Inc. has merged its own one-chip facsimile engine with a ¦ÌTRON-specifciation kernel, thus realizing facsimile, telephone, and e-mail functions with high-speed, real-time processing.
The resulting technology is used in Matsushita's "Panafax A5CL," a personal facsimile machine for home use that can display up to three lines of characters from a Japanese language e-mail message on a small liquid crystal display screen.
